About
A learning project that got out of hand
Silverlog started because I wanted to learn coding and development, and I needed a project to build. I'd been shooting film for a long time and kept running into the same frustrations: reciprocity data scattered across forums, manufacturers' development times buried in outdated PDFs, reference sites plastered with ads.
So I built a reciprocity calculator. Then a development time lookup. Then I thought “maybe I should organise all this film data properly” and suddenly I was building an app... then an encyclopaedia.
There's no company behind this. No team, no investors, no business plan. It's just me — an artist, educator, and photographer who shoots film, learning by building something I actually want to use. Every feature exists because I needed it, or because someone asked for it.
The code is imperfect (I'm still learning). The data has gaps (there's a lot of film out there). But I'm committed to making it accurate, useful, and free. If something's wrong, tell me — I fix things quickly.
What's here
Plus an app ecosystem in the works — reciprocity calculator, dev timer, DoF calculator, and more.
Silverlog is free and will stay free. No ads, no paywalls, no “premium tiers”. I built it because I wanted it to exist, and I share it because others might find it useful too.
That said, hosting costs money, and building this takes time I could spend on paid work. If Silverlog saves you time or helps you learn something, consider buying me a coffee. It's not expected — but it does help me justify spending evenings on this instead of client projects.
