FlexColor software produces excellent results but has learning curve. No third-party software support. Outputs to 3F RAW format or TIFF.

Buying guide
The X5 is about four times faster, accepts the optional batch feeder and slide feeder, and adds a light condenser and sensor cooling; its 35mm maximum is 8000 ppi against the X1's 6300 ppi. Both connect by FireWire. Verify sensor calibration. Test with your film formats. Check FlexColor installation and licensing.
