The M3 (1954) defined the M system. Its 0.90x finder suits 50mm and longer lenses; 35mm needs an external finder or 'spectacles'. Early bodies have a double-stroke advance lever and a glass pressure plate; later ones have a single-stroke lever and a metal plate. Check shutter curtains for pinholes and test rangefinder accuracy.
