Chemical

Gold(III) chloride

CAS 13453-07-1 · EC 236-623-1 · AuCl3

Also known as gold trichloride, auric chloride

Toners usually use chloroauric acid (hydrogen tetrachloroaurate, CAS 16903-35-8) rather than anhydrous gold chloride. Supplier safety data sheets for that form commonly classify it as corrosive and a skin sensitiser, so follow your supplier's SDS.

Handle chemistry safely

Wear gloves and eye protection, work with good ventilation, and read the supplier’s safety data sheet before use. Hazard information here is a summary, not a replacement for it. Dispose of all photographic chemistry correctly, in line with local laws and your local authority’s guidance. Never mix waste solutions, and check the supplier’s safety data sheet before disposing of anything.
