EI is the speed the film was rated at when shooting. Evidence says where each time comes from: the manufacturer’s own data, a named test, a compilation or several agreeing reports (community consensus), or one person’s report. Times marked “not yet verified” come from secondary sources and haven’t been checked against a manufacturer datasheet. Where sources give different times, every one is listed and marked “sources differ”.

Calculated from the 20°C (68°F) time using Ilford’s temperature compensation factors, not taken from a datasheet. Most B&W developers behave well between 18–24°C (64–75°F).

How they work together

T-Max Developer
High acutance, full film speed, normal contrast. Enhanced shadow detail in normally processed and push-processed film.
Kodak T-Max 100
Kodak describes it as a medium-speed (ISO 100/21) panchromatic film with extremely high sharpness, extremely fine grain and very high resolving power, good for detailed subjects and copying (F-4016, June 2018). Kodak calls it the world's finest-grain 100-speed black-and-white film.
Notes on this pairing
  • Small tank, agitation every 30 s. T-MAX Developer 1+4 (Kodak's standard dilution); Kodak says not recommended at 18 °C.
  • Small tank, agitation every 30 s. Kodak gives 1+7 at 24 °C only; dilute T-MAX gives slightly higher speed and more grain.
  • Small tank, agitation every 30 s. Kodak gives 1+9 at 24 °C only and does not recommend more dilute solutions.
  • One-stop push. Small tank, agitation every 30 s. T-MAX Developer 1+4.
  • Two-stop push. Small tank, agitation every 30 s. T-MAX Developer 1+4.
  • Three-stop push. Small tank, agitation every 30 s. T-MAX Developer 1+4; F-4016 gives this push at 24 °C only.
